Waves

The weather is getting really warm here so after work we can't help but spend as much time as we can outside. You guessed it...we headed to the beach. We have learned that when the tide is coming up, the fish are biting! We both caught at least 10 fish yesterday. They are small enough to be sardines but the thrill is in the catch! :). At one point we were getting so many bites that we started to have a contest on who could catch the most. I won't mention who won ;). After awhile, I got tired of reeling in all those fish ;) so I started taking some pictures. The goal was to get a picture that made the waves look foggy. In order to do this you have to leave your shutter open for a long time. What makes this difficult is that I don't have a strong enough filter on my camera so I overexpose my pictures most of the time, and my tripod doesn't keep my camera steady enough. I shot about 200 pictures and out came a few worth keeping! The sun stays out until almost 11 pm here (no kidding) so we left at 10:30 last night not realizing it was so late. Tonight...back to the beach! Craig is cooking us up some dinner "to go" as I type!

Memories...

As we have been busy with weddings lately (Davis' last weekend and my sister's coming up in a few months) Craig and I have been reminded of our own special day almost two years ago. We were so blessed on our wedding day to have everyone there we loved. It so easy in the mix of all the wedding plans to get lost in what is not important and forget what a wedding is all about. It is the day you stand up in front of everyone you love and promise God and eachother that you will spend the rest of your days side by side. Looking back at our wedding, I have flashes of memories. I remember the morning of our wedding and the butterflies in my stomach. I remember sliding into my dress as my friends and family held it high above my head (hoping that it would zip :)). I remember standing in a circle saying a prayer with my bridesmaids before walking down the aisle. I remember looking at Craig for the first time on our wedding day. I also remember the reception, talking with friends and family, cutting cake, dancing, and running towards the car on our way to start our life together. What I don't remember....is the ceremony. I've tried really hard to remember the details....did I cry? Did Craig cry? Did I stumble on my words? Did we laugh? I don't remember! It has bothered me that I can't remember what is the most important moment in my life. Recently Craig and I talked about this moment trying to gather all the pieces from eachother. As we sat there in silence for a few minutes, both of us thinking of that special day, Craig broke the silence and said, " you know, I think God took the memory of our ceremony to heaven with him so he can keep it there for us...safe and untouched." You know...I think he is right. Now I know where those memories are, and I thank God for keeping them close. Thank you God for my wonderful and Godly husband I am so blessed to have.

We're Back!

Sorry about the lack of blogging. We have been out in Montana for a wedding last week and prior to that...no excuses. The wedding was my best friend Davis' wedding. The wedding was absolutely beautiful. Everything went off without a hitch and she looked absolutely stunning! She has one lucky husband! Congratulations you two! I love ya both!

Back at the homestead. Craig just finished a golf tourney with some buddies at work. He had a good time. He almost won a prize given that he made a 40 foot putt! I have to say..I'm pretty proud! Someone else stole the prize with a 48 foot putt (although there might have been some cheating there! ....so Craig says ;))

I have also been keeping busy. I found a neat little photoshop downtown that holds workshops. I love photography and I am definitely a work in progress. The workshops are really neat. The guy that owns the store also does field trips where everyone meets somewhere and he helps people get some good pictures. I have a nice DSLR camera and learning how to use it is a lot easier with some help. As I get better I hope to have another blog that shows off some of my pictures. I'll keep ya posted on that!

Today we headed over to the Catholic Church to go to their annual festival. The advertisment called it a festival but really it was a full out carnival. They had carnival rides all the way from a ferris wheel, to a rollar coaster, to the tilt-a-whirl. There was food, games, and even your typical carnies! Oh...and a Beer Garden! Yes a beer garden in a church parking lot! You don't see that every day. In any event, we had a good time eating some hotdogs and watching all the people.

After the carnival/festival, we headed to the beach. Craig wanted to try out some more fishing and I wanted to capture some good pictures. We found the perfect fishing spot. Standing there on the beach you could actually see the fish jumping everywhere. The good news...Craig caught his first fish since we've been here! They do exist! Not just one...but THREE!!!! (Craig wanted me to mention that he did catch all three within an hour :)) Now granted they weren't the 50 pounders that we were planning for but that didn't matter. It was so cool. Salt water fish are interesting looking so everytime he caught a fish I had to run over and get a picture. The second one was really weird. It kinda had spikes. It was hard getting the lure out of his mouth.

While Craig fished, I took some pictures. We left when the sun went down. Luckily we brought a flashlight so we could find our way back to the car.

Fishing...kind of...

Friday afternoon, the sun came out so Craig and I figured it was time to go out and exercise our newly purchased fishing licenses. In order to get started on our fishing trip we needed to stop by the local hardware store and pick up a fishing pole. Now, both of us fished as kids and we have "memories" of how to do it, but we felt a little out of our league here. Like most things, we like to jump right in and start off big and complicated. I mean, let's see the logic here. Neither of us has fished for over 10 years so why start off on something easy like a lake. No no no...go for something big like...lets say... an ocean! So here we are in the hardware store looking for a fishing pole, you know, to use in the ocean. As we stood there amongst the endless options of poles and reels, we started talking about all the fish we were going to catch in the ocean. At the end of the conversation, we reasoned that yes we needed a pole, a reel, and fishing line that could handle at "least" 50 lbs. So if you can picture the size of this thing...feel free to laugh at us, because looking back, I wish someone would have laughed at us and spared us the next 4 hours of what was to come. So here we are walking out of the store with a fishing pole that could catch a whale, a reel the size of our dog, and line as thick as a cable cord. I won't even go into detail about the lure we bought. So off we went, as proud as can be. We have some new fishing equipment and we are off to the ocean to catch a whale. So we drove the 5 miles to the beach, unloaded our huge equipment and hiked down to the water. Once we were down to the water, the first task was to tie the lure to the fishing line. Craig got his blackberry out getting ready to google how to tie a lure. Well, the bad news came when we realized we did not have service. Hmmm...what to do now. After attempting a few knots of our own we found a little demonstration picture on the back of one of our lures. phew, past that hurdle with flying colors. Next. Okay, this should be easy...throw the puppy in the water. Well, this I wish I had my camera for. See Craig has been wanting to fish since the day I met him. He randomly talks about how much he loves to fish and how bad he wants to go fishing. So I was anxiously watching his expression as he got ready to throw the line in. You should have seen the look on his face. It was this priceless huge smile. After he threw his arm forward with brute strength casting his line in, we heard a big "clunk." The fishing line went about 3 feet from his feet. Hmmm....try that again. Here we go, arm forward, line going!...., and going, and going, and going, and going, and going.....and going. Oh no. The reel had a big ol' rat nest all around it. No problem, we can fix this. I was determined to get his reel ready to go again. My poor husband, all he wants to do is fish. So I take one end of the line and start walking while Craig stands and holds the other end. Of course I had to walk and walk and walk and walk and walk and walk....and walk. (yes there were people on the beach, and yes, they were laughing). So the rat's nest finally came out and Craig started reeling the line in with me at the end of it. The line was all wrapped back up and ready for another cast. Being the engineers we are, we analyzed what went wrong and came up with a solution for the next cast. Before we did that, we decided to walk down the beach a little way since we had already done our fair share of entertaining on that end of the beach. After getting to our new spot, Craig tried it again. This time we knew it would work. There he goes, arm forward, thunk, and then line everywhere. Uh oh. Not good, rat nest. Same thing, same solution. This went on two more times. The last time, we couldn't get the tangles out, so we had to cut the HUGE line off of the HUGE reel. Of course this is not a simple task. We were sitting on the beach with line everywhere around us. That was it with this equipment. Back to the hardware store. We returned everything (except for the mess of fishing line) and got ourselves a nice little pole and reel, and some nice thin line. This fishing pole was one we both knew how to use. We didn't want to end the day without getting the line in the water so we went back to the water and cast until the sun went down. Granted we got nothing more than seaweed but we really had a good time. You would think we would learn by now and start off small, but it just isn't our style
