I am currently in Colorado hanging with my sister. We have been busy decorating and doing a bunch of work on her house. I will post pictures of some of our projects in a later blog. In the meantime wish me luck as I am relearning to drive on snow! Goose is down here with me...and I swear he is meant to live in the snow. He just lays down in it and rubs his face in the drifts. There is something so peaceful about watching the snow fall...well until you have to get in your car. A prayer wouldn't be wasted on me as I navigate around this snowy town trying not to get lost! Maybe it is because it inspired me when I was growing up. Maybe because I know how dedicated people working in the space program are. Maybe because I know how important it is to keep America's leadership in space. Cancelling the constellation program concerns me greatly and saddens me immensely. (My guess...many folks don't even know what the constellation program is) It really scares me to know that after the shuttle retires this year our US government will no longer have or be in the process of building a new spacecraft. There are a lot of NASA critics out there. We hear the same thing over and over...behind schedule and over budget. Many claim that these are the reasons the space program is failing. WRONG.
I continue to be amazed at the number of people who have no idea what the space station is. People hear (sometimes) that another shuttle has launched...but have no idea why. Can you tell me when the last shuttle launched...or how many launched last year? People have no idea what kind of technology is being built every day because of NASA. When living in Houston and working at NASA, I knew exactly what NASA was up to and the great progress it was making every day. Upon moving to Washington, I have heard the word NASA from the media one time in two years, and I can not tell you how many people I have met who have absolutely no idea what NASA is even doing these days....all they say is that it is a waste of taxpayers money. When you never hear about the great successes NASA is making...it is easy to call it a failure. Some how some way people need to get excited about the space program again. It doesn't matter how hard our NASA engineers work and how exciting their plans our...if the public doesn't know about them, NASA will fail every time. Obama's new budget shows us exactly what happens when the public is left in the dark. When people don't know...they don't care. If people knew and understood what NASA was up to....I can all but guarantee (space nerd or not) people would be excited. Our biggest failure is not informing the people! Watch this video...and ask yourself....did I know this was all in the making? Then, remember...Obama's budget calls for 2.5 billion dollars to shut it down.
This weekend, I completed my mini laundry room project. We have had this huge empty space on the wall in our laundry room that I have been wanting to fill. It usually takes me some time before I find the right picture, or come up with just the right idea. I knew I wanted a bunch of white framed pictures...but pictures of what? As always, decorating on the cheap is the goal, so I began my search for cheap white frames this weekend. It is pretty hard finding the right size frame, in the right color, for the right price. We finally found some frames...that were cheap and the right size, but not the right color. This is when Craig said two simple words that lit up my heart! Spray Paint! I've never spray painted anything before, but Craig insisted it is cheap and easy. So a few hours later, we had white frames, that were the right size, and of course...the right price ($3 each). Next problem to solve...what to frame? That is when it just hit me! I like the clean, white, gardening type of look in a laundry room...and I remember seeing the neatest flower seed packets at the hardware store a couple of weeks ago. That's it!!! I wanted to frame flower seed packets! Craig looked at me like I had finally lost it!
It turned out really neat, and it is exactly the look I was going for (and Craig did finally admit...that framing flower seed packets was indeed... a good idea!)

I found these flowers at an antique store months ago. They are actually made out of paper!
This Magnetic Note board used to be green...but with a little spray paint...it matches perfectly! I found the cutest little gardening poem on the Internet that I stuck on the board as a finishing touch!~
