Little Brother Visits Day 3 and 4
Days 3 and 4 consisted of two days at a beach, a couple of games of monopoly (credit card version), going to the movie UP 3D (which I HIGHLY recommend!), and an expedition to an old copper mine. When Wyatt and I went on a hike on Monday, we came across this old copper mine cave. Because we didn't have our flashlights (or Craig), we decided to return the following day. Wyatt talked about it all day, and once Craig was home, we packed up and headed off to the cave. Of course Craig equipped us with some hard hats to look like true mining explorers. I wasn't about to set foot in the cave, but Wyatt and Craig made it all the way through (it goes pretty deep....and we'll...I'm scared of bats.) Hanging out in a cave...it must be a boy thing!
Wyatt wanted a picture with Maverick...he calls Mav his little buddy.
Because I refused to go into the cave, Craig agreed to take the camera in to get some pictures so I could see what it looked like. This is what I got back :).
Wyatt is running out of the cave at this point...Craig made some noise to scare him...and it worked. See...this is why I didn't go in...I would be running too!
The boys in the cave. Ooooooo...spooky!
Alright...moments before the big entrance!
Before the big expedition to the cave. Hard hats on...check, tools in hand....check. Alright...let's go! Note: To all you CSM folks out there....yes indeed this is Craig's CSM hard hat he wore when hiking up to the M! Go Donkeys...or wait I mean Orediggers! :)
Dirty brother and dirty dog after getting buried in the sand at the beach.
Little Brother buried in the sand!
Digging in the sand. If you've noticed...most pictures of Wyatt also have Goose in them... as Goose follows the little guy EVERYWHERE! (Wyatt is reading as I write and Wyatt said, "You know Katie, maybe you should put how old I am, and then people will know how old I am and know I'm not that little!") So...he is 10 years old...not so little I know...but he's still my "little" brother!

Little Brother Visits Day 2...continued
The rest of day 2...a 4 hour hike through the forestlands. It was a blast. The night before we watched the Goonies, so it was very fitting, exploring the woods, looking for treasures. Goose and Wyatt ran most of the time, with me trying to catch up. We hiked all around Little Cranberry Lake. On our way, Goose stopped for a swim, "conquering his fears" as Wyatt would say since this was Goose's first time getting all the way in the water, having to do the doggy paddle and all. On our way around the lake, we discovered an old copper mine cave. We forgot our flashlights at home so we are going to return later tonight to do further exploring of the cave. Wyatt hopes to find a lot of copper so we can be rich!!!! (oh...like before...he is reading this as I write and I have been asked to make a minor correction). There no "we" in being rich. "He" is going to rich, not we." My bad. He continues to explain, "it is my starting plan for being rich Katie, that's it, just my starting plan."
After the long hike, we headed out to Chuck - E - Cheese for some dinner. My favorite part, "BLUE SCREEN TIME." Blue screen time is when you get in front of a blue screen and you show up on all the TVs in Chuck - E - Cheese. It was hilarious. I braved it first, followed by Craig, and then Wyatt joined in. Good times!

Little Brother visits day 2
So far...kind of rainy, so this morning has consisted of playing with Goose. Goose is HUGE compared to little brother (uh oh...Wyatt is reading this as I write this and he said, "I'm NOT that little Katie, I'm 4'4"!"). It is so funny because when Wyatt lays on the ground waiting for Goose to play with him, Goose goes over and sits or lays on him. Wyatt thinks it is so funny...and it looks HILARIOUS!

Paris Hilton and the Baccalaureate
Today marks the day in which I watched the single worse show on television...for ten minutes. While eating some lunch I was flipping through some channels, and I landed on "Paris Hilton's new BFF" or something like that. The first (and last) scene I saw was Paris Hilton in front of a line of girls. Paris was wearing a crown type of thing and was sitting on a thrown. The girls were pleading (aka begging) Paris to be her friend. It was the most pathetic thing I have witnessed on television, and I have seen a lot of pathetic shows. These poor girls were telling Paris how great she was, and how bad they just wanted to be her friend (and unfortunately...I don't think they were acting, they were serious). Of course the show wouldn't be complete without Paris demoralizing these girls further telling them why they weren't quite good enough. I had to turn off the tv at that point, I couldn't even bare to visit other day time television options. A flood of thoughts went through my head. Is this what today's youth is all about? Isn't this a perfect example of worshipping false idols? Do people really watch this stuff? What do they come away feeling like. My guess...not good. I spent the rest of the afternoon working on some photos, and honestly, the Paris show did not leave my mind. For whatever reason, my faith in society...was...well...slightly shaken, even more so than when I watch some political show that gets me fired up! Who would have thought Paris could fire me up so much? My anger soon turned to sadness as I further thought of the whole premise...someone begging someone else to validate them. These girls were searching to be whole in one way or another...whether that be through fame, validation, or just plain attention. The truth, they were looking in all the wrong places.
When God tells us to not worship false idols, it is for a VERY good reason, and it is for our own good, not His. People are just that...people. They will let you down, every time. If you look to be whole through other people, you will be left searching, and searching is all you'll do.
After dinner tonight, Craig and I headed to the high school to watch something called the Baccalaureate. Neither of us had such a thing at our high schools so we had no idea what to expect. All we knew is that the seniors (who graduate this Friday) share stories about their faith. Hmmm...sounds really interesting. We figured it would be in a small little room, with a couple of chairs set up. Oh no, we were wrong. It was in their theatre, there were a good 200 people attending, and ~40 high school seniors. The seniors all walked out in their graduation gowns. The ceremony consisted of worship music (all done by a high school worship band) and speeches of several students about their walk with Christ. It was AMAZING! It was POWERFUL! I've gotta tell you, Paris may have shaken my faith in society...but these kids raised it higher than it has ever been! Not only was there an incredible number of seniors there, but they spoke words way beyond their years. These kids had such faith, had such courage, had such wisdom..I had to pick my jaw up off the ground at the end of the ceremony. Tonight really reminded me how great God really is! It doesn't matter your age, your situation, who you are, or where you come from, we are all His...and it is by the grace He gives us that we are made whole, our search...it stops with Him. The next time I doubt today's youth, tomorrow's future, I will remember tonight's ceremony and remember the overwhelming amount of hope these "kids" left me with.

A good quote for the day
Do not criticize someone unless you have walked a mile in their shoes...because...
first you'll be a mile away, and second...you'll have their shoes!~
