A little ambitious?

Well Craig and I have really been trying to get ourselves in some sort of routine where exercising is a part of every day. How we keep ourselves so busy I don't know, but finding the time is hard to do. So last weekend we decided to kick start this new and improved lifestyle with a nice "little" bike ride. We decided to conquer this trail that goes across the bay and all around the refineries. So we jumped on our bikes and started on our journey. It was 1 minute into our bike ride when we realized that getting to the trail meant going downhill about 400 feet or so. This is when we discovered that we aren't used to hills...at all! Thinking back, we never encountered a hill during our Texas bike rides. At first it was pretty fun, until I heard this a Screeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeech! At that moment Craig goes jetting by me yelling...."um...my breaks aren't working!" So there he goes, trying to push on the little breaks he had (Thank God we had helmets on!). We both made it down the hill in one piece...of course with our hearts racing. Our Walmart bikes might not be cut out for this place. In any event we went on our way. Crossing the bay we had to dodge huge clam shells. The birds fly over and crack open the shells right along the trail. They are pretty sharp and can pop your tires. So we continued on and eventually made it all around the refineries. This part took us about 2 hours. When we finally crossed back over the bay, we were both exhausted and decided to stop and eat dinner before we went home. After eating, all we wanted to do was to lay down and sleep. This is when the realization of having to go uphill about 400 feet hit us. Hmmmm....what is the best way to do this? Our legs were so tired that walking was even painful. Our bottoms hurt to sit on our bikes and we had quite the trek home. Slowly (and I mean slowly) we made it home. We walked some and biked some. Our legs were numb when we finally got home. After we got home, we mapped the trip to see how far we went. It turns out we went about 30 miles. Now that is long way considering the last time we even touched our bikes was last summer. I think we need to break ourselves in a little slower. All night we felt like we had restless leg syndrome :)....we now think we know what that might feel like.
Since then, we haven't exercised a whole lot unless you consider mowing, vacuuming, and chasing Maverick around exercise. We're doing our best to get going...but I think we are going to park the car at the bottom of the hill before we leave the house next time...and of course get some new breaks on Craig's Huffy! :)

Do you want to be an Engineer?

Okay... new requirement for all want-a-be engineers (if there is such a thing). If you or someone you know out there is even kind of considering the exciting career of engineering please take this piece of advice. It is so important to know exactly what you are getting into before you dive into any career...basically do your homework! You must not assume that you have "an idea" and that is good enough. You must find a source to tell you EXACTLY how it is. I myself could try and tell you all the details of an engineering career, but it is much easier if I point you to a source (the TV) that without a doubt will tell you EXACTLY how it is. Do these 2 things, then decide...Do I really want to be an engineer?

Homework #1: Watch the sitcom Office (take notes, because any real engineer would)
Homework #2: Watch the movie Office space (then go and buy yourself a stapler...pick your favorite color).

After you have completed these 2 assignments please take a moment or two, build a spreadsheet on the topic and ask yourself, is this the life I want...

We are moved in!!!

A quick update now that our computer is back up and running...

We did finally close on our house lastMonday. Our closing story is a loooooooooong one. In the end it worked out but I will say that the poor ladies at the Title company sure had their work cut out for them! One of the banks we were working with couldn't quite get their stuff together, so we closed on our house 4 days late. Luckily everything worked out in the end and we were able to close last Monday. We spent all week painting some rooms before the furniture arrived on Friday. We ended up painting 5 rooms in 4 days. We were up until almost 4 am on Thursday finishing our painting just to realize (at 4 am) that the ceilings also needed to be painted pretty bad. We decided to save that task for later. The movers showed up bright and early on Friday and the official move-in began. Everything went quick and they had all our stuff in our house by mid afternoon. Because at this point we were quite tired of living in complete chaos, we went full speed and unpacked, organized, and decorated the house before the weekend was over. The only thing left is hanging some pictures (which I hear Craig doing now). The house looks wonderful and we feel at home again! I'll post some pics at a later date. We still have those ceilings to paint and some remodeling type of work, but we're getting there!
