As Promised

Home delivery grocery shopping! I explained this wonderful new discovery in a previous post and said that I'd let you know what it was like after we gave it a try. This week, we gave it a try, and my overall rating of the whole experience is an A+

Like any grocery store trip, we made a list before beginning. After the list, we went online to the following address: http://peach.kroger.com/sf/servlet/storefront

And..the shopping began! The biggest advice we can give is use the "search" function rather than go "aisle by aisle." The first time shopping online takes a little longer because you are still learning how it works and where everything is. After your first online shopping trip the system saves your previous lists so that items that you buy over and over are easily accessible under "your lists". After shopping you pick a day and a delivery time. You can have your groceries delivered that day or weeks down the road. You select a 2 hour time slot in which you have to be home to receive your order. We picked the next day with a time slot from 6-8 pm. The next day, right at 6:30 pm the big truck showed up with all our groceries. The delivery man was wonderful and he brought our groceries right into our kitchen! With that said, a couple of things you might be wondering about:

1) How accurate were they with your order? they were a 100% accurate with our order. Our delivery man said they have a 98% accuracy rating. Everything we ordered, we received.
2) What about produce...did you get good quality produce? Yes we did! The produce for this trip was onions, tomatoes, green peppers, yellow peppers, and mushrooms. All of them were perfect...i wouldn't have picked them better myself. When ordering these items, some items you have to order by weight...so if you want 2 big onions, you kind of have to know the approximate weight you are looking for.
3) Was the meat quality picked for you good? Yes it was! Like the produce, I couldn't have picked it better myself.
4) Did your items have early expiration dates on them? Nope...everything...milk, bread, eggs etc. had reasonable expiration dates, same as before, couldn't have pick it better myself.
5) Are the groceries more expensive when you shop online? No! The prices you find online are the same prices you find in the stores. Another note...when shopping online, it is a heck of a lot easier to utilize that coupon stack you have sitting on you kitchen counter! We are going to start utilizing coupons a lot more now!

6) How much did it cost? The first time is free, but subsequent orders are $9.99. In our opinion ...well worth it. It is a lot less stressful and worth the convenience. I will mention that at the end of the day, had we actually went to the store to shop, we would have spent more money at the store. Think about it. When you are grocery shopping, you will pick up at least $9.99 worth of stuff you just "saw along the way" that wasn't on your list and it is usually a bunch of stuff you really didn't need.

7) Do you need a King Soopers Club Card? Yes you do. Get one before you online shop! If you don't have a King Soopers in your area, see if you have a Kroger in your area (they are part of the King Soopers corporation).

8) Did your groceries arrive cold? Yes! Your groceries will show up in a refrigerated truck. They would have arrived a lot less cold had I drove them home.
9) Would you grocery shop online again? Yes absolutely. This is our new way of shopping around here. For all you moms out there...I promise you'll never regret giving this a try.

A trip to the vet

We took maverick into the vet to get him some heart worm prevention medicine. This was his first time to the colorado vet so they did a complete check-up (sigh). Here is his current diagnosis...all in one vet visit:

1) A dislocated knee joint. Appearantly he has always had this. No wonder he skips around.

2) Small ear infection. Thank goodness...a little white vinegar and water cleared this one up.

3) Allergies. Yes indeed allergies. A little children's benedril and he is just fine.

4) Due for a kennel cough shot

5) Needs heart worm prevention medicine (at least we were expecting this one!)

5) Needs his teeth cleaned. We laughed when they told us they wanted to completely put him under to clean his teeth....for a small fee of $400! Um yeah, we passed. Until we spend $400 on our teeth, he's keeping with his toothbrush.

6) Hypersensitive skin. We knew this one...he already has "special" shampoo.

This dog. Love the little guy, but goodness. I'm just holding my breath untiil he is diagnosed with diabetes and needs daily insulin shots. Geesh.

The best thing...since slice bread!

So as I was sitting here watching TV, I looked out my window and saw a u-haul sized truck with the words... "KINGSOOPERS.COM Shop Online NOW!" I watched the truck as it pulled up to our neighbors. Out came grocery bags full of food. Grocery shopping delivery! Seriously...I don't mind most domestic duties (vacuuming, dusting, cleaning, laundry), but I can not stand in any way shape or form grocery shopping. I do not like anything about it. I have only dreamt about such a service! So because I was both curious and EXTREMELY interested I went to look how it worked. The cost is $9.95. To me...quite possibly well worth it for those once a month HUGE trips to the grocery store. The online shopping set-up is pretty nice too. I called Craig in great excitement after this miraculous discovery. Of course he laughed...but trust me, I can all but guarantee he'll be the first to use this service (he hates grocery shopping almost as much as me!). So when I try this out for the first time, I will let you all know how it goes. I would give up sliced bread any day of the week for grocery store delivery!
